| The National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN) is an Employers’ Association representing approximately 19,000 independent retail newsagents throughout the British Isles and Ireland out of a total population of news retailers of circa 54,000. The NFRN was formed in 1919 to represent the interests of small, "corner shop" independent newsagents within the Confectionery, Tobacconist and Newsagent (CTN) sector. Nowadays, however, in a very competitive marketplace, many traditional CTNs have been forced to diversify and today, more than 60% of the NFRN’s membership are News and Convenience Retailers. The businesses that the NFRN represents are the specialists in news and magazine retailing. Over 60% of our members provide a home news delivery service that provides a vital life-line, particularly for the elderly and infirm and those living in rural locations and most are stockists of an extensive range of specialist newspapers and magazines. As such they provide an essential service to communities up and down the country. The Federation is highly democratic; officials are elected by our members, and then represent members’ interests at local and national level, along with NFRN staff. ![]() In the West Midlands we are keen to benefit from current technology and have launched a set of web based services, enabling our members to communicate and share information with the district team and fellow NFRN West Midlands members.
